Artist’s Profile

 

Chike Azuonye is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he received a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine and Applied Art in the 80s. Chike lives and works in South East London (UK).

Chike also received a certificate in Artists in Schools Training programme from the Institute of Education, University of London (1995).  In 2005, he was awarded a Diploma in Digital Origination from the University of the Arts, London.

 

For over two decades, Chike organised and led many art workshops in primary and secondary schools and also in community art centres around London.

 

For those who are new to his work, his paintings are very colourful and vibrant, and painted mainly in oil, though versatile in the use of other art mediums. Chike is both a figurative and abstract painter. Some of his figurative works are stylised and often in impasto, and painted with palette and painting knives. Chike is also a portrait artist and accepts portrait commissions in oil, charcoal, acrylic, pencil and pastel.

 

Chike has had several solo, joint and group exhibitions since 1984 in Nigeria, France and the UK; notably, 'Offspring of the Mind' at Enugu, Nigeria (1988); 'Symbols and Cymbals' in London (1994) and 'Exhibition of Recent Paintings' also in London (2004).
